Robert Homersham is senior counsel and a consultant with Field Law in Calgary whose practice consists of commercial real estate law, with an emphasis on land use planning and development. His practice includes both solicitor and litigation work. Robert has advised on the ownership structure, acquisition, subdivision, servicing, development entitlement, financing, and disposition (leasing or sale) of numerous major developments in Calgary and area and across all CRE industry sectors. He has appeared numerous times before municipal councils and administration, subdivision and development appeal boards, the Land and Property Rights Tribunal, and the Alberta Court of Appeal to advocate for developer clients.

In addition to having deep industry expertise, Robert makes a point of getting to know his client’s business. This allows him to offer more creative and effective solutions for his clients - to add value as a strategic advisor, including in those grey zones where the advice is not purely legal.

Robert is a member of the Law Society of Alberta, the Canadian and Calgary Bar Associations, and the Urban Land Institute. He is a former member of the Calgary Subdivision and Development Appeal Board. Robert is very involved in CRE industry advocacy before municipal and provincial governments as a board member of both BILD - Calgary Region and NAIOP Calgary. He is also past president of NAIOP and past chair of its Government Affairs Committee. His advocacy work on behalf of the CRE industry has included extensive consultation on financing of municipal infrastructure, Calgary’s off-site levies bylaw, standard development agreement, land use bylaw, and Green Line LRT, as well as the Province’s comprehensive review of the Municipal Government Act, the creation of city charters for Calgary and Edmonton, and the reorganization of the Real Estate Council of Alberta.
